“>There are bikes you order, and bikes you build. Nicolas’s clearly belongs to the second category.
As former owner of a bike shop in Court-Saint-Étienne, Nicolas didn’t need the market explained to him. He knows it inside out. When he came to see us, it was to create something unique. A bike in his image. A machine unlike any other.
A dedicated triathlete, he knew he’d spend long hours in the saddle. Comfort wasn’t therefore an option — it was the starting point for the entire design.
“>We built his Zafi Roots around a white ash frame, chosen for its greater stiffness than walnut — a desirable quality for a cyclist seeking sustained efficiency. But beyond the material, it’s what Nicolas embedded within it that makes this bike truly singular.
“>The inserts on either side of the logo are carved from a piece of beam from his family home, a place where he spent many happy times. A subtle detail, yet full of meaning — enough to bring back those memories every time he rides out.
On the head tube and top tube is a warthog. That’s his nickname amongst his friends. As a motocross enthusiast, it’s easy to imagine he was the muddiest of the bunch by the end of the day. A nod that’s just like him: quirky, unapologetic, and rooted in a real story.
Not one to overdo things, Nicolas wanted solid, reliable components without fuss. He’s a fan of Zipp — we naturally steered the cockpit towards their Service Course range, with matching handlebar and seatpost. A sober, precise ensemble designed for comfort on long distances.
The mechanical Shimano 105 drivetrain completes the picture: a proven groupset renowned for reliability and easy maintenance that has nothing left to prove.
“>The DT Swiss AR 1600 Spline wheels bring discrete yet effective aerodynamic touches. With their 30 mm rim depth, 20 mm internal width and hidden nipples, they combine stiffness, efficiency and careful finishing — all on a robust, durable aluminium structure.
“>The Selle Italia Novus Evo Boost saddle completes this build with particular attention to comfort. Its wave profile supports the sit bones on long rides, whilst its central cutout reduces pressure. A judicious choice for a triathlete accustomed to sustained efforts.
“>This bike doesn’t seek to impress at all costs. It seeks to endure, to hold, and to tell a story — Nicolas’s story, with his roots, his friendships, and his hours spent in the saddle.
